Our Theologically Rooted Christian Vision
Let Every Light Shine
Jesus said, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven." Matthew 5:16.
Our Theologically Rooted Christian Vision
‘Let Every Light Shine’ Matthew 5:16
As God’s children, filled with His light, we will shine before others to inspire, nurture and bring joy so all may embrace life in its fullness to the glory of God. At St. Lawrence Church of England Primary School, we believe each person is made in the image of God and each child is God’s child. We strive to reflect the love of God, love of life and love of learning in all that we do. Our Christian character is lived out through our Christian vision which illuminates all aspects of school life, where everyone is understood and respected as a precious child of God.
The school’s motto “Let Every Light Shine” encapsulates the school’s commitment to provide a fulfilling education which is deep and broad, equipping children for life in all its fullness, focussed through compassion, trust, forgiveness and creation. Our children are inspired with a love of learning, enabling them to flourish and embrace their fullest individual potential whilst learning how to love, and empowering others to do the same.
We are a small school that nurtures the individual skills and talents of each child and ensures that every light can shine.
Our Vision Explained
When Jesus first started teaching he spoke from a mountainside in front of large crowds. The sermon on the mount (Matthew, Chapter 5) is a collection of moral teachings from Jesus and, in 'Salt and Light' (verses 13-17) Jesus encourages his listeners to be the light of the world and to go out into the world using their gifts and talents to the glory of God.
The school community adopted this theologically rooted Christian vision because we believe that every child is an individual and, properly nurtured and supported, has gifts and talents to offer the world and God.
Our Core Values
We endeavour to build our school on our core values of Compassion, Trust, Forgiveness and Creation.
Our aim is to foster the intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of all our pupils. We believe that children need a caring, consistent environment where they are treated with respect and where their well-being is seen as paramount.
We believe that each child should leave school with:
A sense of moral and spiritual awareness A sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them A love of learning and the desire to achieve high standards A growing ability to relate to and communicate with other people A sense of their citizenship of the school and the wider community.
