Well done to all of our Year 6 children who are now prefects!  We are looking forward to a supporting them with this new responsibility!

We are looking out for learning ambassadors (who could also be a prefect) across the school.  To see the St Lawrence definition of a learning ambassador, as devised by the children, please click here.

IMPORTANT REQUEST - it would be really helpful if your child has a small basic literacy toolkit in school which includes a pen to write with (fountain pen preferable, not a biro or ballpoint pen), some highlighters and a rubber of their own.  Many thanks!

Our class topic this half term is world War 1, linked to our very exciting 150th celebrations.  Our Power of Reading book for this half term is 'Stay Where You Are and Then Leave'.  Parents, if you have any resources or books that you think may be useful for our topic, please do let us know or send them in.

In maths lessons we will be focusing on multiplication and division over the next few weeks in year 5, whilst year 6 will be concentrating on revision for SATs tests.

Home Learning

Year 6 will be completing SAT's revision activities for homework.

Home learning journals will be collected in on Wednesdays and given out on Fridays.

Reading, spelling practice and times tables practice should be happening throughout the week, preferably every day. This is included on the pick and mix menu as well so that more stars can be earned!  Year 6 will also need to be regularly completing activities in their grammar and mental arithmetic books as well, for which even more stars can be earned.

We practice our personalised spelling words in class three times a week using a cued spelling approach. More information here:

Alongside this, the children have a list of words to learn each week and they will have an opportunity to demonstrate the words they have learned on a Friday. These words will go home in a small, green spelling book each Friday. Please ensure these spelling books come back into school every Friday so that the children can note down their new words.

Year 6 are now responsible for their own words to take home and learn each week, based on what they can not already spell from the lists below (statutory words).  Feel free to download and print off these words or ask Mrs Jones for a copy.

Please click here to see all the year 5 and 6 statutory words the children need to be able to read and spell by the end of Year 6.  Children should also be able to read and spell all the year 3 and 4 statutory words.

PE and sport

We are very excited to be offering athletics and Kwik Cricket on Monday afternoons for Year 5 and 6 PE lessons during this half term!  Please ensure that PE kit and suitable outdoor trainers (different to field shoes) are in school.
